Autoclaved Aerated Concrete blocks

Autoclaved Aerated Cement (AAC) is a lightweight, Precast, high-insulating, durable foam building, eco-friendly and certified green building material block.

The Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) material was developed in 1924 in Sweden. It has become one of the most used building materials in Europe and is rapidly growing in many other countries around the world.

Composition of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete block

Cement

SanghiOPC 53 Grade cement is used in AAC concrete as it sets and hardens and can bind other material together.

Fly Ash

It gives thermal insulation, fire resistance and sound absorption. Fly ash is a waste industrial product which is used for the reduction of construction cost. Fly Ash used is Class C which contains 20% lime and loss of ignition not be more than 6%.

Limestone

Limestone gets either directly by procuring from the merchant or by crushing it into a finer powder.

Aluminium Powder

When the raw material reacts with aluminium powder, the air bubble introduced due to the reaction between calcium hydroxide, aluminum and water, and hydrogen gas is released. It is an expansion agent.

Benefits and Application

Ø  Highly fire- and termite-resistant.
Ø  Recyclable material.
Ø  Available in a variety of forms and sizes.
Ø  Easy handling and installation due to light weight.
Ø  High thermal mass stores and releases energy over time.
Ø  An excellent material for soundproofing material and acoustic insulation.
Ø  Economical shipping and handling when compared to poured concrete or concrete block.
Ø  Easy to cut for chases and holes for electrical and plumbing lines.

Drawback

Ø  Unfinished exterior walls require exterior cladding to protect them from weather.
Ø  Products often show inconsistency in quality and colour.
Ø  Cost is higher than a conventional concrete block and wood-frame construction.
Ø  AAC blocks should be handled very carefully than the clay bricks as they are very brittle in nature.
